A Geometric Analysis of the Trifocal Tensor

چکیده
Reconstruction of 3D-objects from a number of images is a central subject of Computer Vision. In this paper we will investigate the geometrical structure of the trifocal tensor using Geometric Algebra. Furthermore, we will give a novel expression for the trifocal tensor, derive constraints on its geometrical structure and investigate its reconstruction ability computationally. We will show that the reconstruction quality is not directly related to the self-consistency of the trifocal tensor.

New Geometric Insight on the Trifocal Tensor and its Constraints
The literature is rich with descriptions of the possible multi-view relations and their use in computer vision. Some of them arise from a purely geometric approach, some others are derived in more of an algebraic fashion. In this paper we show that, with a re-definition of the involved objects and some additional geometric tools, we can come to a more intuitive understanding of some of the most...
متن کاملA Nonlinear Method for Estimating the Projective Geometry of Three Views
Given three partially overlapping views of a scene from which a set of point correspondences have been extracted, recover the three trifocal tensors between the three views. We give a new way of deriving the trifocal tensor based on Grassmann-Cayley algebra that sheds some new light on its structure. We show that our derivation leads to a complete characterization of its geometric and algebraic...
متن کاملVisual Navigation by Means of Three View Geometry
We address the problem of driving autonomously a nonholonomic vehicle to a target location by using a purely vision-based control framework based on three view geometry. We present three different approaches based on the trifocal tensor. The first one is a control law defined by an exact input-output linearization of the trifocal tensor model, with the desired evolution of the system directly d...
متن کاملThree-view camera calibration using geometric algebra
In a former work of ours [I], we proposed a new way to express and interpret the epipolar constraint using Geometric Algebra, and we derived from it a novel and efficient 2view camera calibration technique. In this paper we extend this GA approach to the 3-view case. Aiter expressing the trifocal constraint in t e m of bivectors and trivectors, we provide an altemative geometric interpretation ...
متن کاملA Versatile Method for Trifocal Tensor Estimation
Reliable estimation of the trifocal tensor is crucial for 3D reconstruction from uncalibrated cameras. The estimation process is based on minimizing the geometric distances between the measurements and the corrected data points, the underlying nonlinear optimization problem being most often solved with the Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) algorithm. We employ for this task the heteroscedastic errors-in...
